"Oh my aching head!" There are days in a first grade classroom that even STUDENTS complain of having a headache. Not to mention how the teacher's throat feels from talking over the children. Students need a reminder about the appropriate level of noise for certain classroom situations.
The students in my district are from a low to lower-middle class area.
Our school district is relatively small with a K-6 building and a Jr./Sr. High School. Students generally enjoy school, but there are often behavior issues that are frustrating for other students and the teacher.
My Project
A Yacker tracker is a classroom management tool that helps to monitor students' noise level. This particular model includes a remote control that the teacher can use to adjust the appropriate volume level. When students start to go above the set level, the light will move from green to yellow-giving them a warning to quiet down. If they continue to get louder, the light will change to red and an alarm will sound.
This project is important to help students have a comfortable learning environment.
I like to provide students with a lot of independent practice time, but as students finish, they get louder and louder. Therefore, students who are still working do not get to work in a quiet environment like the other students did. I try to convey this to my students, but it is difficult for them to understand. This visual reminder will be fun for them, and I can give students the best working environment I can.
