Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My second grade students have learned to read and now they need the opportunity to practice reading outside of the classroom.

I have 22 very enthusiastic students this year all of whom qualify for free lunch.

Many have just learned to read and unfortunately do not have access to books outside of school. Our school library has been closed for months due to the budget cuts and my students have not had access to appropriate grade level reading materials outside of our core program.

My Project

My students need to have access to books that they are interested in reading. They need to practice reading after school and on the weekends in order to become successful students. By having access to a variety of books available for checkout my students will be able to read at home, after school, and on the weekends. I am requesting a variety of high interest chapter books, a leveled library checkout chart, book bins, and a storage cart for organizational purposes.

My students need these chapter books to further develop their reading comprehension skills, fluency, writing skills, vocabulary, and most importantly a love for reading.

Thank you so much for your consideration.
