Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a public charter which is fortunate enough to have a 1:1 student to Chromebook ratio and computer science classes. These are definitely kids of the 21st-century as they tackle technology with no fear. While they have reading resources on the computer they still enjoy flipping through the physical pages of a book.
My students are creative, energetic, and love making and designing new projects.
This class is particularly full of energy and loves to move which keeps me on my toes and makes each day a new and fun experience. We are now finished with the first trimester of the school year after a year of distance learning and continue to look forward to working with each and every one of them and watching them grow.
My Project
My students absolutely love to read, whether it's independent reading, reading in small groups, or even listening to a read aloud, the love for literature is evident. Unfortunately, our classroom library is rather small and we do not have a school library to help this love of reading to continue to grow. With these books, most of which the students have suggested, I hope to supplement and expand our modest classroom library. I was pleasantly surprised when I asked students for a few book titles on a sticky note and received sticky notes filled to the brim with neat handwriting and dozens of book suggestions from graphic novels and I Spy books to history and science books.
