My students are the best! Ninth graders are known for their energy and curiosity, but my students surpass my expectations every day. They find creative ways to solve difficult problems.
They are funny and compassionate, and I am always blown away by their candor.
They love to relate the course material to their own lives, and are hungry to dig deep and ask the tough questions. The deserve every resource in the world, not just the resources I can afford to give them.
My Project
The school where I work does not have a library. I know this seems shocking to many of you, but the reality is that the library was not being used to its potential and there was a need for classroom space. While students are able to find much of the nonfiction information they may have gotten from the library online, they do not have that same access to works of fiction. My love for reading (and for the English language) was born out of works of fiction, many of which I never would have discovered without my school libraries. With this in mind, I have begun to build my own classroom library.
