This project is fully funded
I teach College Literacy, a reading course, to ninth grade students in the city of Chicago. My school has limited resources, and most of the students who attend the school come from low-income families.
A huge part of the curriculum is Silent-Sustained Reading (SSR). The problem is that I do not have enough reading materials in my classroom for my students to choose from to read during this time.
A bigger classroom library will give students more choices, which is a key component in reading motivation. Most of my students are struggling readers and have come to dislike reading because of their struggles. Offering them more choices will encourage them to read more, which will aid them in becoming better readers.
You will make it possible for my students to discover that reading is enjoyable and thereby increase their reading proficiency.
