Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Hello, I'm a fifth grade teacher. I work for a school in California where our majority of students come from African American and Hispanic families. Our school is a free public school, and most of our students come from low socio economic status. In addition, we are a Title I School which means that we provide free meal plans to support our families needs. What makes my students special is that they come to class ready to learn with enthusiasm and eagerness even as we deal with the pandemic.
My students really enjoy READING TIME, this is when I allow students to pick a book and dive into new adventures.
Reading is a skill that becomes a habit in my classroom. I want students to read daily not only to practice fluency but also to expand their imagination, unwind, and explore the wonders of reading.
My Project
As we return to a regular in-person instruction, I wanted to create and update a reading corner library that I had set up before the pandemic. As an upper elementary school teacher, I know how important it is for students to continue bulding thier reading comprehension skills. Therefore, I wanted to make sure I have new seating that is comfortable and easy to wipe down. My goal is to create a reading corner where students can go to when we have our reading rotations or reading circle time. Students will be able to seat in comfortable seating that allows them to relax and focus as they read. This project is all going toward our new and updated reading space, the carpet will be used to also separate or give students personal space as they read. Theses materials will make a difference in my students learning as they will be more accessible seating and comfortable chairs for all students to use. Also, the seats and chairs are easy to wipe down as I will clean the seats daily for the safety of everyone.
