My students need more fiction and nonfiction book sets to devour! My students love to read and some have already finished more than five books, and it's the second week of school.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The skill that my students will work on this year is empathy. There is no better way to teach students empathy than through reading.
My students are a diverse group.
Most come from low economic status backgrounds and live with extended family. Our school strives to provide a safe, consistent environment that nurtures their natural curiosity. Encouraging reading is a school-wide effort and every little bit helps.
My Project
There is no better use of a classroom library than students using it to expand their imaginations. While we do visit the library once a week, many students finish those books long before we return. Having a library stocked with appealing fiction and nonfiction texts will support those students and allow them to continue reading before the next visit.
Donating to our class will help our students expanded their vocabulary and reading comprehension through independent reading.
The students will also get a real-world lesson in caring and empathy (two traits in our IB learner profile and attitudes).
