This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are a highly enthusiastic and diverse group of learners! They come from wonderful families with a strong commitment to education, who will support their children as best as they can to achieve success in the classroom and in the future.
Due to the present state of the world in a global pandemic, most of my class only recently returned to in-person school after being fully remote since March of 2020.
Prior to schools shutting down, I sent books home with my students so they had reading materials for the 2 weeks we’d be closed. That turned into a year and a half, and those students are now no longer in our school. My once flourishing library filled with leveled texts and books sorted by genre is empty and needs a dramatic reboot.
My Project
My students needs to read! The more they practice reading, the more fluent they’ll become. Having more texts available will allow them the opportunity to practice the skills and strategies I’m teaching them during Reading Workshop so that they may try them independently. We need to have as many books on hand as possible, and this revival of our library will bring more titles and content to their world! I can only imagine the growth and success they’ll encounter with so many new titles to choose from and practice with!
