My 4th-grade students are curious, passionate about their interests, and they love to learn. They care about social issues and want to read books that help them make sense of their world. Unfortunately, my classroom library is out of date and I have limited school-provided funds to grow my book collection.
Help me inspire my students with up-to-date, engaging texts that relate to them and their lives.
Having new library books will positively impact my student's literacy skills.
The learners in my class will check out new books such as, "The Crossover Series", "Into the Wild, Fire and Ice, Forest of Secrets", "Space Dumplins: A Graphic Novel" and more from the classroom library to read during reader's workshop lessons. I will use these texts to guide differentiated reading strategy groups aimed to boost students' literacy skills. Given the unique challenges of learning during a pandemic, it is more important than ever to provide small group instruction to meet students where they are at. This will ensure that all my students make progress towards grade-level standards in reading.
Students will also be able to take these high-interest books home to read for their daily reading assignments. Your donation will put books into the hands of learners who do not have access to high-quality texts at home. This will enable them to continue practicing the reading skills they learned outside of school, and help families develop a strong culture of reading at home.
Additionally, I will use these texts as read-aloud's to foster whole class discussions around social emotional and social justice issues. This will build each child's sense of identity, as well as help them become more empathetic across lines of difference.
By donating to this project, you will help foster a lifelong love of reading in my classroom! What better gift could you give?
