Classroom Library & Phonics Fun!

Help me give my students the love of reading and understanding phonics. Many of my students are English language leaners and are very excited to read chapter books on their own.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are creative and curious 2nd graders who are learning to read in a new language. Each student has a reading goal to meet at the end of 2nd grade and that is to be able to read a chapter book on their own with fluency and understanding. I want to give my students the necessary tools to be proficient readers in English. I believe a strong foundation in phonics is also needed due to the complex phonemes that are part of the English language.

As I observe my students progress and gains as they become readers, it is important to provide them with the recourses they need to achieve their reading goals.

Helping my English language learners to be successful in 2nd grade and beyond has always been my goal for each of them. Many of my students come from households that can't afford books and I would love to have many different books available to my students in our classroom library. I want my students to grow into proficient readers and have the phonics skills to help them tackle words that they may come across as readers.

I believe giving my students the power of words can and will help them for years to come as they end 2nd grade and move onward to 3rd grade. I want my 2nd graders to be able to read well as 3rd graders and take these all important phonics skills into the next grade. I know by providing students with good books and phonics materials their self-image as a reader will grow and they will become confident readers and thinkers for years to come. Providing my ELL's with high quality reading and phonics materials will help them with literacy gains that they will need for the their academic achievements.
