Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students live in the Kingsbridge area of the Bronx, but they come with cultural experiences from all around the world. They are hardworking, inquisitive, deep thinkers, fun! I am so looking forward to teaching them this year.
Our school is a Title I school and my students face many challenges, but they always arrive to class prepared to do their best work.
My students always make significant reading gains by the end of the year. Many of them score the highest levels on the NYS ELA test. This is due to their willingness to work hard, critically read and write day in and out.
My Project
This month we got our first project funded on DonorsChoose. We are so grateful for the books and everyone who donated to our classroom. These items will help create a system for checking out these new books, ensuring that our classroom library lasts for years to come.
The bookshelf will give us a space to store the books, the checkout cards will help us keep track of who has a book and when it is due, allowing students to take them home.
The iPad will make keeping inventory and checking out much smoother for our class librarian, while also giving students access to audio/digital books. All of these materials together are furthering the book culture I hope to foster in our classroom.
