Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are 6th and 7th graders in the San Fernando Valley. These students are kind, bright, and eager to learn.

Some of my students have a hard time accessing or affording quality books because they come from low-income areas.

Many of my students are English Language Language Learners and/or come to middle school reading far below their reading level. Access to books will help close those significant gaps for them before it is too late in their educational career.

Everyone deserves to learn, no matter their background or obstacles faced in life. I am hoping to revamp and fill in missing chunks of my current small class library for these readers and future leaders!

My Project

Every child deserves a classroom library full of books they'll love. My classroom library has always been my pride and joy. I have watched hesitant readers grow into avid readers through the books they choose from my room. I have watched my students fall in love with adventures through the eyes of characters they love. This is especially important as many of my students do not have access to literature at home.

However, on the day before we went home due to the concerns over COVID-19, I let my students check out as many books as they wanted to because at that time we did not know how long they would be home.

A year and a half later, my classroom library has many missing pieces to it, that I am hoping to fill with this fundraiser.

My fundraiser is to fill in the missing books from my shelves, as well as add some new awesome series. I am also adding books that celebrate women, diversity, and are inclusive of the LGBTQ+ community.
