it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My third graders are an energetic group of kids who are eager to learn about our world. Our school is a Title 1 school nestled in the heart of City Heights, San Diego. In our community we have many students who have been identified as special ed, ADD, & ADHD. On campus there are more than 20 different languages and dialects spoken. Many of my students are immigrants and refugees from warn torn nations. All of our students qualify and receive free breakfast and lunch every day. Our third graders are so resiliant and come to school with a smile on their face. They are so happy to feel safe and loved in our community.
My Project
Our classroom library needs a makeover. The book bins in our library are over ten years old and falling apart. When students are in the library they often get their clothes caught on the cracked plastic bins or get scratches on their arms or legs. Can you imagine? I would love to bring life to our library. New colorful bins would bring a welcoming warm feeling to our library and classroom. I would also color code the library based on book genres and levels to help our ELL students navigate around the library. Sturdy book bins will last a life time and bring joy to reading.
