it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our middle school is a new campus in a high-poverty area, serving over 1,250 students in grades 6 through 8. Over 88% of our students participate in the free or reduced-price lunch program. Our campus was created by combining students from two different middle schools and pulling up the 6th graders onto our campus from our four feeder elementary campuses. We are creating a new sense of family and community and serving a diverse population of students.

We create engaging learning environments that foster positive relationships and develop growth mindsets. We allow students to infuse technology in everything they do. We seek to build digital citizenship and responsibility in our students with what they create and share out into our digital world. Our students are caring, curious, creative, and love to work together in teams. They care about leaving a positive impression and the older students serve as role models to our younger 6th graders. We truly have the best students who deserve the very best!
My Project
Many students struggle connecting to history and often do not see how it is directly relevant to their daily lives or how important our history is on our present and our future. Our students love to read, but I do not have books to create a classroom library for students when they finish their work or tests early, want to research more in-depth information, or want to check them out to read at home.
I hope to help students find a love of history through their love of reading by creating a classroom library full of historical novels, biographies, primary source documents, and fun and engaging historical books.
Students will be able to use the Smithsonian and pictorial books to visualize what we are learning about in class. Primary source documents, like Common Sense, the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Federalist/Anti-Federalist Papers, will allow students to read and explore important historical documents first hand. Students can learn more in depth information about presidents through biographies and encyclopedias.
