My Project

My students are some of the most dedicated, talented, and underestimated kids in St. Paul. I have the most magnificent 10th, 11th, and 12th graders and feel lucky to work with them every day. Even though they face obstacles greater than most of us can imagine, they bring themselves to school, put on a smile, and actively learn. More than 90% of my students come from low-income households, and at least that many have first- or second-generation immigrant backgrounds.

These kids deserve a classroom library that matches their interests and their abilities.

Currently, the books available to them are mainly geared towards young readers and elementary schoolers. These high schoolers should have access to age-appropriate, compelling stories, so they can fall in love with reading.

Independent reading skills, especially to immigrant and English-learning students, are immensely beneficial to students' success academically and in life beyond school.
