My Students

Students love having a classroom library! It makes learning exciting, and they really utilize the materials! I've even had students donate their own books to our class library. It is such a powerful tool for creating a community of learners.

I am new to this school, but the students I have met are awesome!

This is a magnet school, and very ethnically and economically diverse. In fact, it was founded largely as a response to the end of busing. It was the first school created as part of the Los Angeles Unified School District's voluntary integration program. It is grades 6-12, and while the school is high performing, I am surprised by how few material resources there are. I came from a Title One school, with tons of money to order materials.

My Project

American History students will love reading books of great speeches by Frederick Douglass, Abraham Lincoln, and Native American leaders. World History students will enjoy studying ancient architecture, and about world religions like Buddhism, Islam, Judaism, and Christianity. Students will explore ancient African and Mayan kingdoms, and medieval castles and roman villages. They will devour the histories of the Japanese Samurai and the Native American Cherokees. By displaying these books as we are studying the different time periods, history will come to life. Thank you for making a difference for 240 students!

When students feel invested in, they develop a great sense of self worth, and a corresponding increase in self efficacy, which is a belief in their own ability to accomplish great things and navigate the world.

In addition, by creating a multicultural learning experience, rich with both primary and secondary sources, learning comes to life. Thank you for all your support! :)
