My Project
My students are avid readers! Independent and choice reading is a pillar of our classroom routine and curriculum, and we start every class period with reading time. This school year, students have already read over a thousand books! Every year at the beginning of the school year, I have some students voice that they hate reading. But with a robust and diverse collection of books in our classroom library, those same reluctant students come to find their passion for reading. My joy as an educator is having students see themselves reflected in their reading and find new perspectives to build their own empathy. As we say in our classroom, yay for books!
As our classroom library gets lots of use over the course of our school year, we often end up missing some books or needing new copies.
