This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are English Language Learners from many diverse backgrounds. They all wonderful and eager to learn. They like to read and discuss texts to demonstrate their understanding and interests across a wide range of topics. I serve my students through all contents and support them with native language support, scaffolds for English language fluency and ESL instruction.
My students are working hard to build our English fluency and proficiency while also maintaining a positive classroom environment where they can also celebrate their varied cultural backgrounds and express themselves through literature, art, and other fun learning activities.
My Project
Please help me give my students a broad, diverse selection of books and comfortable classroom library seating that all children deserve. With the help of previous donations I have been able to furnish and build a small classroom library. However, this donation will help me fill my classroom bookshelves with enough books for students ranging from classic children's books, fiction, and fantasy, to SEL themed and nonfiction books.
Living in a low-income community plagued by a lack of resources, our students are in dire need of SEL support and many of the books in this list can help them cope with many of their feelings and emotions relating to trauma and stress.
Moreover, these books and seat choices would enrich our classroom library and allow students to more easily escape into the many diverse and magical worlds waiting in this wonderful book selection.
I look forward to sharing many of the rich themes and lessons taught in these books with my students in the form of read alouds, reading circles, and sharing opportunities in which students can find books that interest them, read them, share, and inspire other students to explore new books in the classroom library.
