Classroom iPads for Science and Robotics

My Project

I have been so impressed by students' drawing and design skills at Building 21 and want to give them the opportunity to bring these skills to science class. I did my student teaching at a school where students were 1:1 with iPads and they were able to create animations and digital products that were simply incredible. One of my favorite projects was a digital Rube Goldberg device that students animated. Given only a required number of energy transformations, students used their creativity, personal experiences, and new knowledge to create exemplar-level products.

Giving students these types of opportunities in science class can help them truly see themselves as scientists adding value to the larger scientific community.

Alongside developing science curriculum that is relevant to students' lives, science educators aim to cultivate ownership and empower students to share their work with authentic audiences. A small set of classroom iPads would help me tailor authentic learning experiences to individual students with a wide range of interests and skills, and expose students to mediums they wouldn't otherwise have the opportunity or guidance to explore.
