This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

There is nothing more engaging to students than being involved in their learning. I believe that having students in all grade engage in role play situations helps to deepen their understanding of the topics I teach, because they become the experts that can teach others. In my experience, students who have be given the chance to experience something new through role play often come away with a deeper understanding and appreciation for what they have learned, and are able to utilize the skills that complimented their learning in other areas of academics.

Project-based learning and role play go hand in hand, and allow students to naturally gain 21st century skills like creativity, critical thinking, and interpersonal communication skills.

As a teacher who encourages all of these things in their classroom, having access to a forensic science kit would allow my students to dive head first into a new area of study, while enhancing the skills they are going to need as they move onto high school and beyond. Science kits set up to have students take on the role of a professional are a worthwhile addition to any classroom, and I hope that you will help me continue to improve mine to help the next generation of learners and leaders.
