This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
This is my first year of teaching for the Detroit Public Schools Community District! I have not gotten the opportunity to meet the wonderful people I have the privilege to teach yet. With that being said, I want to create an environment for them where they feel like everything they need will be provided and where I can feel that everything I think they'll need will be provided.
I think education is important, and what I love about being able to teach has much to do with helping young ones learn more about themselves and the world around them.
Each student has their own needs and mathematical goals, and I want to foster a space where those individual needs are met and this pushes them to their highest potential.
My Project
These materials will make a difference in my students' learning by allowing students to focus just on learning rather than on whether they have the essential materials to be prepared for class.
Each student would get materials to have individual packets.
That is how I envision my class for next year. In light of the pandemic, I think it would be best for students to have their own materials. Students will be able to leave their materials in my class if they choose so that they never have to worry about being without.
My requests will help cover the basic needs for learning such as pencils, highlighters, markers, dry erase boards, rulers, scissors, and glue so that my classroom is equipped to help provide each student with their own resources. Although these materials are not specific to any one lesson, they will help keep students provided with the stuff they need so that preparedness by their own means isn't a marker for success in my classroom.
