This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In our classroom, students don’t just learn about money—they live it. Through a classroom economy system, they earn "dollars" for completing assignments, showing leadership, and making positive contributions to our learning community. They then use this classroom currency to pay rent for their desks, buy supplies, or save for special privileges. This hands-on experience brings financial concepts to life and teaches critical life skills like budgeting, saving, and decision-making in a way that feels meaningful and relevant.

The specific items used in our classroom economy—such as desk rentals, a class store, and job roles—make a real difference in students' learning.

They encourage responsibility and planning, and help students experience the real-world consequences of financial decisions in a safe, supportive setting. My goal for this project is to build not only financial literacy, but also confidence, independence, and strong work habits that will serve students far beyond the classroom. By making economics tangible, students develop a stronger connection between effort, reward, and smart money choices.

What makes my students special is their enthusiasm, creativity, and willingness to rise to challenges. They are eager to take ownership of their learning and thrive when given meaningful roles and responsibilities. This system taps into their natural curiosity and turns everyday classroom routines into powerful learning opportunities. Watching them grow into thoughtful, capable decision-makers is one of the most rewarding parts of this project.
