Help me give my students a chance to participate in a classroom economy by earning money, purchasing prizes and rewards including community rewards and games.
This is my first year teaching 5th grade at WWES. This year has been so amazing. I love my team, I love the curriculum, and I especially love my class. Over the last several years, I have implemented a classroom economy. Coming into a new school and grade, I wasn't sure if this would be something I could, or would want, to do. As we are approaching the last little bit of the school year, I have decided I would like to change up our classroom managment a bit, and give the classroom economy a try.
Through implenting a classroom enconomy, I hope to see an increase in student responsiblity and accountability.
I have seen this in all of my classes where I used classroom money. Even my second graders knew that they had to take responsibility for their supplies because they didn't want to 'pay' for a new one. Class money also encourages students to follow rules, routines, and procedures.
Another part of my project is community games. I like having games to play in class for free time, indoor recess, and our 'Flex Friday.' As often as possible I like to tuck our computers away and be screen free for interactions with our peers. Having more game options would be helpful in building our fun classroom community where students can play a variety of games that include any number of players.
I believe all of these things can help our class come closer together.
