Classroom Dividers

Help me give my students classroom dividers to create a structured learning space.

My Project

I believe that incorporating dividers would significantly enhance the learning environment by creating focused work areas for individual or small group activities, reducing distractions during independent work, providing visual barriers for students with sensory sensitivities, and aiding in social distancing, if needed.

Many students with special needs, such as those with autism spectrum disorder or sensory processing sensitivities, can be easily overwhelmed by visual and auditory stimuli in a busy classroom.

Dividers can create calmer, more predictable individual or small group workspaces, minimizing distractions and promoting focus. By creating defined spaces, dividers can help students with attention deficits or hyperactivity disorder to better concentrate on their tasks without being as easily sidetracked by the activities of their peers.

Dividers can delineate personal learning zones tailored to a student's specific needs. This could involve a quiet corner for focused work, a visually less stimulating area, or a space that provides a sense of personal boundaries. Dividers can help define areas for small group instruction, allowing for more focused interaction between the teacher and a small group of students with similar learning goals, without disrupting the rest of the class. Visually defined spaces can aid students with organizational challenges by providing clear boundaries and reducing visual clutter. For some students with anxiety or emotional regulation difficulties, having a defined personal space can contribute to a greater sense of security and reduce feelings of being overwhelmed or exposed.

By creating clear boundaries and reducing distractions, dividers can empower students to work more independently and manage their own learning environment.
