Classroom Divider For Work Spaces And Classroom Materials

My students need materials that will enable them to work towards their IEP goals and objectives such as sorting shapes and colors, as well as manipulatives for fine motor development and a divider to provide a quiet area for work spaces.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are three to four years old and live in an urban, high poverty setting. I teach a self-contained classroom and all of my students have Individualized Education Programs (IEP's) that provide special education and related services. My classroom is specifically designed for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, many whom are non-verbal.

My students have IEP goals and objectives focusing around developing language, pre-literacy and pre-math skills.

The materials that I have requested will enable them to work toward mastering their goals and objectives.

My school has been designated as a "Turnaroud Arts School" and approximately 25 percent of the entire school population receives special education services.

My Project

I am in need of a classroom divider for my room. This will enable my students to have a clearly defined work space, free from distractions within the room. My classroom tends to be quite noisy, with active children engaged in play! Additionally, when students become upset, the divider will provide quiet space away from their peers.

The materials and manipulatives that I have requested will enable my students to work toward their IEP goals and objectives, focusing on math skills, such as colors and shapes.

As many of my students are non-verbal, language development is a primary focus for my classroom. One way I hope to promote language development is through music. The CD/book libraries will help my students development language through music and repetition.

Furthermore, many of my students have goals pertaining to their fine motor development. Having a wide variety of materials will enable them to work toward these goals.

Presently, my classroom has limited materials for my students to interact with.
