Classroom Design with Diversity of Learners in Mind

Help me give my students diverse books and Surf Portable Lap Desks to foster an inclusive learning community that embraces my student's individuality, identities, and learning styles.

My Project

Our classroom is a community in which we learn and grow. Creating a comfortable and inviting environment that welcomes all learning styles is key! I've learned from experience that one size doesn't fit all. Our classroom community is student-centered for fourth-grade learners who are physically, emotionally, developmentally, and culturally unique to include learning spaces for all.

Seating options, such as the Surf Portable Lap Desk One-Piece Writing Table, are a big hit with my students this year so a few more lap desks to accommodate a larger class size would be fabulous for flexible seating options!

The portable lap desk supports inclusive spaces and gives my students the choice and voice of where to work and with whom they learn best in our classroom. This includes giving everyone an equal opportunity to participate, feel comfortable, and thrive in our learning environment.

My goal as an educator is to cultivate a culturally relevant and inclusive learning community that encourages my students to value their own identities as well as those of others. I want my students to see themselves as self-advocates, decision-makers, and problem-solvers in all they do including choosing where and with whom to sit as well as how they work best.

A diverse classroom library with books such as, Squished: A Graphic Novel, helps my students see themselves reflected in the books they read as they nourish their need to read and understand the world we live in.

Learning happens when students connect and belong, and I look forward to fostering my students' love for learning with open arms, diverse books, and flexible seating!
