My Project
I am heading into my 15th year of teaching and year five at my current school. Our school just got a fresh coat of paint and much-needed new carpet over the summer. I would like to update my classroom rug as well. In Kindergarten, we spend so much of our learning time on the carpet. I would like to give my students a cozy spot to sit.
We start each day with a morning meeting to build community in our classroom.
The students have an opportunity to greet one another, share good news with Mr. Shark, read a message, and play a class game. This rug is the perfect spot for our class to meet and start our day. Throughout our day, we spend time on our carpet reading stories, learning writing strategies, acquiring math concepts, and learning how to be globally minded citizens.
In kindergarten, students are still learning social skills such as self-control and understanding personal space. A classroom rug with specific spots for students to sit will help solidify these social skills.
