Classroom Coffee Shop: Building Life Skills for Special Needs Students

Help me give my students the supplies needed to run a school coffee shop. We need a coffee maker, delivery cart, and other coffee-making supplies to make this happen.

My Project

My middle school special education students are on a journey to become as independent and confident as possible. In addition to our academic work, we do hands-on projects nearly every day to introduce life skills and promote self- confidence. We also bolster independence through life skills tasks throughout the school day.

A classroom coffee shop would introduce my students to practical job skills and financial literacy, but would also boost their self-confidence by producing a product that they can sell to teachers and staff.

My students will help compile orders from online order forms, label the cups, make the coffee, deliver to staff throughout the school, and collect payment. Each part of this process will promote life skills and show my incredible students that they are capable of great things in their lives. My students all have different skills and abilities, and this running project will let them and their individuality shine!

The start-up costs for this venture are high, as we need a coffee maker, delivery cart, and all of the consumables required to run a coffee shop. Once we get started, though, my students will be able to collect payments from staff that will fund the coffee shop for the future.
