My Students

Were you that quiet student who never spoke in class? Did you always sit in the back of the classroom avoiding making eye contact with the teacher? Did you shudder at the thought of speaking in front of your classmates? If so, you are like countless other students in classrooms across the world.

As teachers, this presents a problem.

We are left having to guess which students are comprehending our lessons and which are not, hoping others will take the lead in class discussions. My students are no different. Many struggle with public speaking anxiety or a lack of understanding difficult class concepts. Therefore some go day after day without raising their hand. These students often will fall behind before the teacher is able to recognize the early warning signs. By providing them with an added level of accountability, I will be able to ensure each student's individual level of understanding is at the highest possible level. My students are energetic and enthusiastic about learning. They are hardworking kids who have a thirst for education. Our school is located in a low socioeconomic area, making resources scarce. With this new technology, my students will have the same advantages students in other districts enjoy.

My Project

By equipping my classroom with individual student clickers, I will be able to create this sense of accountability. With a remote in the hands of each student, I will be able to ask questions and receive instant feedback on student understanding. Polls can be conducted in class to see where students stand on controversial issues. Important questions can be answered by every student. Review games will become more interactive. All of this will be displayed in real time on the projector through pie charts, bar graphs,and other visual representations of student understanding. These clickers will help to further enhance the listening skills of my students and create an entire class of proactive learners. No longer will shy students be able to avoid participation and no longer will stronger students be able to dominate class discussions by shouting out answers. These are skills that will translate across every subject area.

The clickers will drastically change the learning environment of my classroom.

Lessons will become more interactive as students will be asked to provide their opinions on important issues and 21st century technology skills will become second nature to every student. However, most importantly, this resource will help me reach every student long before they fall behind. These clickers are the most effective way for me to reach EVERY student and provide an equal opportunity for success.
