My Students
One of the many reasons I would like a chromebooks is to help increase the student to device ratio in the classroom. We are trying to get all 6th graders a chromebook. The Hatchet materials would greatly enhance my literature unit offering an audio, better quality books and lessons.
I serve a population in Northern Califrnia, of hard-working students and families.
Over ninety percent of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch and this economic situation is reflected in the fact that most of our students do not have reliable access to computers, educational technology, or the Internet in their residences. As a result, students lack the skills that they need to succeed in today's technology driven society.
My Project
Our students are preparing (some of them apprehensively) for the transition to secondary school, where technology use is a large part of curriculum and expectation. With chromebooks use in the classroom, they will have access to their device for education purposes throughout their school day as well as have the ability to take them home to complete homework assignments. Technology integration will help students reach classroom, school, and district-wide goals. Chromebooks offer a standard keyboard and cloud-based applications and storage more representative of technology they will use in secondary education and beyond. As students progress through their education, they will be given more complex tasks which integrate research and presentation skills and require the products of their efforts to be placed online for peer and teacher review. Hatchet materials will be used with a literature unit offering audio, better quality books and lessons. This will enhance student engagement and connection.
Having a one to one device ration is so important to me and my school.
It can offer teachers the opportunity to provide engaging instruction that is more easily differentiated among our students with various levels of English proficiency. Instruction can be more finely focused on particular needs of individual students when a computer is used.
Having adequate Hatchet materials is very key to my literature unit because it can increase motivation and engagement to story and allow a deeper connection to story.
