My Project
Help me make my classroom an environment that will feel like a second home.
I strive to create a home-like environment to build a sense of community and family in the school and my classroom.
Since returning back to in-person instruction, it has been more important than ever that my students feel comfortable in their space since they will be spending so much time in the classroom. My students love to learn in different places and need an outlet to get their energy out through movement, circle time, having a calming center, and reading books in a soft, comfortable space. A classroom rug is an essential place in our classroom where most of our learning takes place. We start and end our day on our classroom rug. We use the classroom rug to have morning meetings, listen to read alouds, participate in music and movement activities, whole group lessons, and center time.
We have built a community that embraces kindness, equity, and understanding. We are working on independence and building ownership of our education. In this class, we work smart and fix our focus lens along the way. I plan to use this rug to use for social and emotional learning. I also want to hold restorative circles on the circle and classroom discussions on feelings and how we treat others kindly. These calming, beautiful carpets will be the best way to make my large classroom, become a safe and nurturing place for my preschool students.
