This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a first grade teacher in a high-need community. All of my students come from low-income homes.
We need a carpet because ours was thrown out over the summer, without us knowing. The classroom was under construction, and asbestos dropped from the ceiling and the carpet had to be thrown out. Now, my first graders are stuck in their desks all day because we no longer have a carpet for them to gather on.
A new carpet for the classroom will allow my students to get up and move around, instead of being stuck in their desks all day. The carpet will allow for a space where the students and I can meet to have class meeting, story time, and play games.
Your help will make a difference in the lives of my students. It will give them the chance to create another fun space in the classroom. A new carpet will make our classroom look more like a first grade classroom, and allow my students to have the freedom to move around the room like first graders need to.
