My Students

My students like to escape difficult circumstances by getting lost in a good book. I am a first-year teacher and am so lucky to be teaching language arts to an amazing group of fifth graders. Class sets of books will ensure that I will be able to make literature something they will enjoy.

I teach 96 fifth-graders in three different classes throughout the day.

I have a wide-range of students. Some students have missed years of school due to homelessness, while some have everything they need. I try to level the playing field for all of my students. No matter what their circumstances, all of my students are kind, eager children who look forward to school each day.

My Project

The materials requested will be used to teach literature in the second half of the year. I have been able to find several different things to teach them about informational text, but it is hard to teach literature without novels! We would be using the various books in class for literary circles and guided activities. Materials would stay in the classroom so that all 96 students would have access to the materials, but only one class set would be needed.

A donation to this project will improve my classroom by providing my students with access to materials they would not otherwise have.

My students enjoy reading, especially stories that allow them a chance to escape their reality. Novels like these will not only teach them different literary techniques, but they will also help inspire creativity!
