My classroom is a fun, safe, and creative place where my students get to learn about themselves and engage in opportunities to grow and expand their knowledge.
My students are readers!
They learned this on the first day of kindergarten. As we have begun to discover books, learn new skills, and develop a love of learning, students are building their confidence and are excited to read and learn new things!
My students don't necessarily come to school with preschool or daycare experience. Many skills are being introduced for the first time.
There are many languages spoken in our class and while the diversity is wonderful, it can make for communication challenges. I have many parents that want to help in the classroom, but most are not able to because they work. This group of students this year are very verbal, social, and imaginative. They love to explore and learn new things.
My Project
Our classroom has been given over 300 new books from the school district. These books are leveled readers that allow my students to practice their reading skills using books that are just right for them. We need so many books to make sure that each student has a variety of materials to choose from at their individual reading level. We need storage! With better storage, students will be able to access these books every day.
Right now, we have tubs of books on the floor, lining the walls or under tables.
This storage shelf and the tubs will help us keep our books nice, neat, and available for all students to utilize. As of now, only a few tubs of books are easily reachable for the students and we need a better storage system. With better storage, these books will be available to all students all the time. Right now, they can only access the books once a week when we pull out the tubs onto the carpet.
