Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Since I moved into my classroom several years ago, I have always wanted to create a space that was warm and welcoming for students. Based on a recent student survey, I have gotten some ideas for how to make that dream a reality.

Students have requested a relaxation corner with alternative seating where they can play board games and do the puzzles that were donated by DonorsChoose earlier this year.

Additionally, students requested alternative lighting to help them relax instead of the harsh fluorescent overhead lighting. And that we beautify our walls by making posters look neat and cared for with frames instead of just stapled to the wall haphazardly.

Students also suggested we bring in some plants to add life and light to our space and more uniform organization systems that will make our supply shelf look professional, neat, and organizing.

As one of my mentors said to me earlier in my career: "a clean house leads to a clean mind." Nothing could be truer for my classroom which has felt frantic and scattered for the last several years. This project is my first attempt to correct that!
