My Students
The students in this specialized high school for math, science, and engineering are just as passionate about music as they are about the sciences. These students have enrolled in the classical guitar elective and are eager to improve their musicianship. They have a keen sense of what it takes to be successful and are not afraid to work hard to master a skill or musical work.
These guitar students are motivated to expand their repertoire and "The Christopher Parkening Guitar Method" book will offer them over 50 musical works to choose from.
The book also excels in explaining right and left-hand techniques with diagrams and exercises that develop core skills.
The school has been recognized for being the most diverse of any New York City high school with a population of 32% Asian, 24% white, 24% Hispanic and 18% African American. This diversity, along with their shared interest in working hard, makes for a dynamic educational community. On campus students learn from each other academically and culturally. The music room is a great place for students to share their common interest in music and the guitar.
My Project
The students in the classical guitar class are eager to expand their musicianship through the study of a more challenging repertoire. These students have mastered basic note reading and can perform single line melodies and basic chords for accompaniment. They have completed their study of the foundational book "Essential Elements for Guitar" and are ready for a more serious study of the art and technique of the classical guitar.
The Christopher Parkening Guitar Method is the premier classical guitar method book for teaching the art and technique of the classical guitar and includes over 50 musical works.
With outstanding diagrams, photographs, exercises, and explanations of technique, this method book prepares the serious guitar student with the skills necessary to perform classical guitar repertoire. Christopher Parkening was taught by the legendary Spanish guitarist Andrés Segovia and is recognized as the heir to his legacy. This is the perfect book to take these guitar students to the next level. Additionally, this class set of books will remain in the music room and be a resource for many years to come, impacting the musical lives of hundreds of high school students eager to explore the music of the classical guitar.
