Classic Novels Literature Circles for AP English Literature

My students need four classic novel sets for AP Literature to form book clubs.

My Students

My classroom is a place where students are pushed to be the best that they can be. I promote advanced and creative thinking through exploration and choice. My classroom is a place where students can prepare for college and careers.

My students are juniors and seniors.

We live in a high poverty area where a large portion of our student body k-12 is on free or reduced lunch. By the time students reach me, many of them have jobs or are caring for younger siblings. They are information hungry.

My Project

My students and I will use these novels to create book clubs in our Advanced Placement English Literature and Composition classroom. Students will be able to select a novel of interest to them and read it along with the book club. Each of these books has appeared on the exam multiple times.

The novels will not only create knowledge and background for the AP Literature Exam, but they will also develop critical reading and thinking skills in my students.

In addition by forming book clubs, students will get a real-life experience that they can continue to enjoy after graduation. Also, students will learn cooperative skills and discussion/conversation techniques that will benefit them for years to come.
