My Students
The United States has been called, "The Land of Opportunity." Most citizens can describe the traditional "American Dream" as the right and ability to carve out any life you choose. Unfortunately, for children, not all opportunities are equal.
My students are the picture of America.
They come from a wide range of ethnic backgrounds and vastly varied, socioeconomic lifestyles. Each child comes with their own life experiences, strengths, and weaknesses. They all want to feel safe and successful, and every one of them brings the need and desire to be loved.
My students are curious, humorous, and zealous. They enjoy learning with their eyes, ears, and hands. As a classroom family, students work together, learn from each other, and strive for personal goals of personal best.
My Project
My students need copies of the unabridged novel, Pollyanna by Eleanore H. Porter. A good book is like a best friend. Sometimes, you find each other as you are both in the “right place” at the “right time.” Sometimes you have to be introduced by someone you know and trust. Modern students aren’t always attracted to classic literature, and I hope my guidance will expand their tastes and enhance their academic experience.
The story of Pollyanna is perfect for my “tweens.” We all remember that middle school can be a difficult time for children.
I hope that by offering them a story of positivity or “gladness” in the face of adversity, I might also offer them encouragement for their personal lives.
Adding a whole group set of the classic novel, Pollyanna, by Eleanor H. Porter will greatly enrich the educational experience of my sixth graders. My students will use these copies of Pollyanna for specific learning standards and skills, overall growth as readers, and to cultivate a lifelong passion for learning.
