Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are from an Inner City Community in Los Angeles. Their ages range from 8 to 9 years old. They love to read all kinds of books, and love to get their hands on many activities. They are very curious and full of energy. Here is where Science comes in.
My students love to read regular books, and are being introduced to reading books using electronic devices.
For my students, learning is fun when they are engaged with hands-on activities.
My Project
Reading is fun and exciting, but it requires engagement. Young minds have to be introduced to reading great books in order to captivate their eager minds to want to read more.
Reading opens gigantic gates to exploration, traveling, making connections to other books and to the real world, and learning about the English Language.
As young minds begin to develop their reading skills, they need support in order to smoothly transition from picture books into chapter books and novels. And what no other way they doing it together as a whole class. Bringing different perspectives to working together on the same goal: Reading their first chapter book together. This book, Charlotte's Web, is a great book to read together.
