Class Supplies and Flexible Seating for Special Ed Room
Help me give my students flexible seating through wiggle seats, a more organized classroom, and supplies like loop scissors and markers to help them to access their education and not have their disabilities be a bigger barrier.
My students are self-contained special education students. Teaching them is one of the greatest callings I have. They deserve everything that I can give them to achieve success in their academics and life.
Our class is a functional skills class, meaning that each of my students have significant disabilities that interfere with their ability to learn the same way as general education students.
They are a fun group of kids who want to learn and be treated as if they don't have any special needs. Due to their specialized needs, it is up to me to make sure that I follow their IEPs (individualized educational programs) and create diverse lesson plans to help each of the to meet their goals. My students have so much to offer everyone around them and brighten everyone's day. Regardless of their personal challenges, you can see their intelligence as they try to process things they are experiencing in their worlds.
Not only do I and my staff assist them with their education, we are frequently teaching them social skills, behavior management including new ways to handle frustrations and sensory overloads, and so much more.
My Project
Classroom supplies are very expensive when added up throughout the school year. We use a lot of white boards and markers for learning and are frequently using markers that barely write, and using tissue paper to erase them. Other supplies like big paper to make posters and classroom organization containers help to create a positive happy environment for our class.
My students have some big sensory needs and need to be able to wiggle while doing their work so they can focus and wiggle seats (flexible seating) will make it possible for them to move and work at the same time.
