My Students

I teach a group of amazing, curious, and hardworking general and special education students in first grade. About sixty percent of my students have a range of disabilities, some of which include learning disabilities, physical disabilities, emotional disturbances, speech and language impairments, and Autism Spectrum Disorder. Like any other class, my students' abilities and interests range across a wide spectrum.

All of my students require individual or small group attention.

Each day, I incorporate all of their learning styles, interests, and special education accommodations into our lessons. Some of my students prefer visual or auditory cues for learning, while some require a more kinesthetic or tactile approach. My students come into our classroom each day with a love of school and a desire to grow as a learner.

My Project

In first grade, there are so many literacy skills to learn. In our class, there are a number of valuable books that we love to read together. Reading books together allows us to spend more time focused on a text, learn things from different points of view, and spend time talking/discussing about a text.

With these books, we are able to teach meaningful concepts, complete fun projects, and learn important lessons.

For this reason, we are requesting two new books as part of a class set!

There Was a Cold Lady Who Swallowed Some Snow would teach us meaningful skills such as sequencing, while I Wish You More is a wonderful social-emotional text that will allow students to study the concept of empathy.
