My Project

My students are sixth graders in the STEAM academy at our middle school.

STEAM celebrates innovation in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math.

A class set of The Invention of Hugo Cabret, by Brian Selznick, will give students the opportunity to do a novel study with an engaging story that explores themes of art and innovation that will inspire my students to think creatively.

As a culminating activity, students will "invent" their own automata using found objects and simple circuitry. They will use small motors and batteries to power their Scribble bots.

Helping students access novels that suit their learning styles will help them cultivate a love of reading for years to come.
