Help me give my students a chance to read The Crossover, by Kwame Alexandra, a novel in verse for our poetry unit, by providing us with a classroom set of books.
My Reading Seminar/English 1 classes consist of 28 students who are at risk learners, and are in need of a book that will motivate them to be engaged in the learning and reading process. By providing a classroom set of novels of The Crossover, by Kwame Alexander, each of my students will have the opportunity to experience poetry through this unique novel written in verse. This high interest novel ( the first in a series) will be paired with our poetry unit, and will bring each student in my classroom the experience to read poetry and learn about poetry in a new format. This unit may also encourage reluctant readers to check out the other books found in this series, increasing their motivation to continue reading outside of the classroom.
