My Project

My students are creative thinkers, writers, readers, inquirers, explorers, and leaders despite the fact that over half of my students do not speak English at home, and some have language and learning disabilities.

While overcoming several challenges, my students all work hard, think deeply, and always take extra effort to learn and share with each other.

Our school is a Title I school that serves many underprivileged students in the community. Approximately 95% of our students are from low-income households, and all of our students are eligible to receive free lunch. Many of them will, hopefully, be the first in their family to go to college.

With many of my students being BIPOC, I would like to do class readings of books that are culturally relevant and encourage them to continue to read through seeing characters who are like them do relatable things.

The book, Front Desk, focuses on an AAPI character which would resonate with many of my AAPI students and can help them better understand important literary elements which can help them comprehend and use more complex texts in the future!
