Class Pet, Durbie the Dragon, Needs A New Home

Help me give my students a new home for our beloved class pet, Durbie the Dragon! Our class pet helps promote social interaction, communication, and social-emotional learning.

My Project

I teach an intensive support classroom. I work with 9 students who focus on communicating through their preferred means. This year we have adopted a bearded dragon, Durbie, through the Pets in the Classroom Grant.

Our class pet, Durbie, can promote communication and social interaction between students, as well as teaching responsibility for his care.

Having a class pet is an amazing opportunity to increase engagement as it can be difficult to find motivating reinforcers for our students at times. As Durbie grows, we will need a bigger home to continue to house him and keep him healthy, happy, and safe. The items (Large Reptile Tank, Driftwood, Lizard Lounger, and Beaded Tank) in my project will allow us to keep Durbie in our classroom.
