Class Pet and Science/Literacy Enrichment

Help me give my students amphibians as class pets! This project includes tadpoles, frogs, tadpole food, and separate tanks for the frogs at different life cycles!

My Students

My class consists of a linguistically, racially, and culturally diverse group of students third graders. The majority of students qualifying for free and reduced lunch. Like young people all over the world, they are still recovering from a year and a half of pandemic learning, but they love being in person with their friends and teachers.

They are kindhearted students who give each other shout outs and are interested in topics of identity, justice, and health.

My Project

Our current English Language Arts Unit is centered around frogs. We are writing stories about frogs, reading poems about amphibians, and going to be reading and researching about frogs. Students will also be creating a trading card about a frog species as one of their final projects.

We already have hissing cockroaches in the class and my students would love taking care of the frogs and watching the tadpoles transform during metamorphosis!

We can watch videos and read about animals, of course, but these would really engage my students. I am committed to taking care of live animals and teaching my students how to care for living creatures and all the responsibility that comes with them.
