This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

English is my first and only language but I have the privilege of watching my students as they develop it as their second and even third language. We spend all day learning about vocabulary that is second nature to me, but brand new to them. Finding the definitions, synonyms, and antonyms for words as they expand their vocabulary each day. Reading the words in context, looking at pictures, and having discussions about each new and unfamiliar word.

When a student from Russia yells out, "I understand!" I know that I am having an impact on their learning.

Each one of them has their own unique story, their own experience and brings something different to the table. I spend my day balancing the needs of 23 individuals while searching for new ways to motivate them each day.

I am so proud of everything they have accomplished and the goals they continue to set for themselves as we practice having a growth mindset while working on growing their mastery over the English language!

My Project

My student's are English Language Learners, so Lexia is an important way for them to practice using English in context! We will use the headphones during our iPad time two times a week so that each student can focus on their own lesson, instead of hearing the class iPads making noise the whole time.

"When I spell the words right I feel happy!" One student says about using Lexia.

Technology in the classroom is such a great way to help engage my students! Having a class set of headphones would help them focus on their learning and increase their comprehension.
