Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our school is located in the poorest congressional district in the nation, and all students are eligible for free and reduced-price lunch. The school is predominately Latino and African American. Thirty percent of the students are English language learners, and some are the first of their families to graduate. Despite all of this, 100% of our graduating seniors are college or career bound.
Our students should have the same opportunities as any other student in the country.
They work hard to succeed without letting anything get in their way. As a community school, each year our graduation rate has increased, and we want to make their learning as meaningful and purposeful as possible.
Each year we hold a big senior celebration as a sendoff for our students. We try to do it as best we can to give them one last hurrah for their senior year. We do this in conjunction with our PTA. We want to make sure that our students this year received the same items as the students from previous years. We are requesting materials such as balloons and table cloths.
We are also requesting snacks to put out on the tables that we will have in the park next-door to our school where we hold the celebration each year.
