Class in Motion - Creating a Smarter Learning Space

My Students

Ours is a high poverty district plagued with perpetual budget cuts. Our students come from working families, and a community blessed with the diversity of many countries and cultures.

My students are intensely curious language learners with high ambitions.

Many come from families affected by what we only witness on the news: conflict in other countries, natural disasters, and the ever-present burden of socioeconomic challenges. And yet, our students show up to school every day, ready to learn, intent on working to find a better way for themselves, their families and their community.

My Project

In a previous project I asked for wobble chairs by Hokki specifically for my high energy students, in the hopes of channeling some of their energy to help them focus on the task at hand. Little did I know just how successful those moving chairs would be!

With your help, I could bring a greater variety of moving chairs into my classroom, allowing even more students to reap the benefits of active seating.

My super squirmy students now rock in the seats and stay on task for longer. Because of the light material and unique design other students could rearrange the seats to form discussion groups or independent writing corners. By bringing additional moving chairs into the classroom, I could expand that accessibility to even more of my students.
