My Students

This is my first time ever that I haven’t had to set up a classroom. This is the first time ever that I’m teaching a class from my home. This is the first time ever that I have not met my students in person, yet have known them for 1/4 of the school year.

It is such a weird feeling waking up brushing my teeth and hair and “turning on” my classroom.

Distance learning has its challenges, but it also has its advantages! Distance Learning has given us the opportunity to interact virtually with student's personal spaces and pets. We get a glimpse into a world that we never would have seen before. Before we would hear complaints about how students hated school. Now they have learned the great lesson that the "grass isn’t always greener on the other side." Some of the shy students are more confident online. As a teacher, I am more silly and fun online because the kid has the ultimate control. They can decide to turn their camera on and participate in learning or go to play video games or watch tv!

My Project

Class Cricut Can Create Community & Competition! If you are a figurative language nerd like me, you will love that alliteration title!

Finding ways to motivate our students while they are learning from home is very difficult!

Teachers are competing with cell phones, video games, and glitchy internet. This becomes very challenging to motivate students to be the best they can be. Distance learning has been a challenge for everyone and I want to use this Cricut machine to make little rewards for students who achieve different milestones throughout the year. Competition is a driving force for students and I could use this Cricut to great items for the best competitors. This teamwork can also build community within the classroom and outside of it. We can create items for the members of our community to spread love and inspiration.

We are all unsure when we will be going back to the classroom so I think this is s great way to create something special and personalized for the students when they achieve greatness! I plan on creating water bottles with stickers of their favorite interests. I also absolutely love making tie-dye t-shirts and socks with the students and would love to print our class logo on them as a wearable keepsake. We are the Phantom Phoenixes!

This Cricut could also be used in the classroom as students return back to school. We could use this for passion projects and DIY projects that students participate in. We could also use it as a fundraiser to create awesome merchandise to sell to our community. I think the possibilities are endless with this Cricut machine and I really hope you see the added value it would add to our class!
